SUNSHINE Coast councillor and town planning chair Christian Dickson won't support a paid parking "cash grab" unless he can see a clear benefit for the community.

Speaking at this morning's Sunshine Coast Daily and Hot 91.1 outdoor broadcast, Cr Dickson shared his views on the controversial issue the council will consider after the election.

He said when he was talking about clear benefits for the community, he meant "new services".

"If you are going to charge for paid parking, give a multi storey car park," he said.

"Don't just take money, don't just be a cash grabbing council."
